Filmed over the course of four turbulent years in Hawai’i, HULA is a feature-length, vérité documentary that follows the extraordinary journey of Laʻakea Perry, a Kumu Hula (hula master teacher), as he and his all-male hālau (hula school) from Waiʻanae, Oʻahu, strive to keep their one-of-a-kind style of hula alive.
Inside a cockpit that reaches 140-degrees Fahrenheit, Steve Hinton Jr. is on a mission to reach the fastest speed ever accomplished in a propeller-driven, piston-engine aircraft. For Steve Jr., the record is deeply personal: his father, Steve Hinton, previously set it when he was a young pilot. Filmed with the same aerial camera unit used in “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Five Thirty Five” follows Steve and his aviation-obsessed family on their journey to break a world record—again.
